In constructing public works projects, the general contractor has to be prepared to deal with an additional layer of complexity beyond what he encounters in building for the private sector. Public works are owned and financed by government entities, which means that the construction enterprise is encumbered with regulations, impact studies and extra oversight. Contractors have to be skilled at handling all these aspects in addition to the specific design and building details involved. Contractors must be thoroughly knowledgeable in multiple areas, along with the specialized design and construction aspects. To guarantee a successful completion of public works buildings, it is best to utilize a centralized project or construction management approach. This ensures that contractors will deliver these sizeable infrastructure projects promptly and in adherence to budget restrictions.  Our experience delivering large projects means you can expect your project fulfilled the Superior Way – one time and on budget.

Strathcona County Public Service Yard

Strathcona County Public Service Yard is a state of the art high performance building that houses the maintenance facility for the county public transportation system.

Strathcona County Public Service Yard is a state of the art high performance building that houses the maintenance facility for the county public transportation system. The building is a pre-engineered clear-span building with a second-story mezzanine complete with translucent paneling for the mezzanine and office space.  Superior Buildings and Design brought our own engineering, and instead of over-designing we made the steel design more efficient. This provided alternatives for materials that worked better and saved money without sacrificing strength or durability.

We were able to use our vacuum lifter to lift roof panels to allow the roofing process to go faster and finish with higher quality. Most importantly, we delivered cost certainty:  No change orders were needed to complete the job as it was laid out in the RFP. The Strathcona County Public Service Yard is state-of-the-art when it comes to heating and cooling.  A high-performance building envelope, insulated metal panels, R45 on the roof, and R30 insulation on the walls created significant long-term cost and energy savings.
